Full Transcript - in this video I want to share with you four one minute habits that I give my players who are struggling to hit the ball straight whether that be with their driver or their irons now generally within a few balls they see significant changes to their ball flight so let's get started and show you what those habits are because they don't require loads of complicated swing changes just a few small tweaks to sometimes just the setup and the way you're coming through the shot can make all the difference let's get started so let's start with the irons first and then what we'll do is we'll finish off with the driver now before I get into the uh the four habits let's talk about what you're doing if you're slicing it or hooking it it's really really simple I want you to imagine the golf swing as simply a swing door like one of those old cowboy swing doors if you are slicing the golf ball okay what we want to do is we want to get that club lined up at impact right there but you if you're slicing it are catching the ball to lay on the ax the doors actually open before you've actually really hit the ball you catch it too late on the ark what this means is your club now is heading way to the left before you actually strike the ball combine that with an open Club face and now suddenly you create this kind of slice spin if you hook the golf ball you do the absolute opposite what happens with yourself is this we want to get the strike here but you catch the ball too early on the arc before you've had a chance to square the club face up that means that when you catch it early on in the arc where's the face it's aiming out to the right so you're either going to hit a push to the right or if you had a close face to that you then suddenly start to hit create these big hook shots so the very first habit that's going to help cure all of this for you let's start with slices first is a change in ball position have a look at this so we said look if you slice the golf ball well you're catching the ball too late on the air this is the yellow line is represents the swing door the middle of the Swing doors opening and closing right now you're catching it too late on the ax so what's the simplest thing you can do by moving the ball further back in your stance here this way what are you doing you're moving it back on this part of the arc so when you're swinging what does this mean what means that you're going to catch the ball earlier than you normally would and if you catch the ball earlier in the arc you're gonna the ball is going to want to set off where this time more out to the right now combine that with the correct face conditions which I'm going to go into Habit to in a second and you're going to immediately start to create more of a draw style shape okay or at least much more straight than you've done before okay because when the ball positions over here somewhere too far forward in your stance now you're going to catch the ball too late on the arc that's your slice okay so let's let's have a look at this in action and we'll do this I'll actually introduce habit number two at the same time so we're going to move the ball this is a mid iron I've got seven iron here I'm going to move the ball back three balls so from there I'm going to go one two three then I'm going to play it there okay so I'm going to move it back now when I'm teaching people to get rid of their slices I actually really exaggerate this I I might even move it back four or five just to start with you could do the same so we've got this center of the arc here okay opposite the lead heel then what I'm going to do is I'm going to put the club down and this is the Habit number two when I put it down I'm going to make sure that the butt ends opposite my inside lead thigh and this is super important I'm going to make sure the club face for the purpose of this video is lined up to my intended target yeah then I'm gonna grip it I am not going to do this I'm not going to move my ball back in my stance like this then grip it let me show you why look at this it's super important this is habit number two if you're if you hold the club like this and then just move the club around if I move the club to here move my ball position back what do you notice about the club face it's now open isn't it what I want to do now look if I square that club face up from there to there that handle is twisting if I put that in my hands now that handles in a very different place to where it was before it's in now more of what we call a beautiful draw shape versus slice or Equity argue straight shot all right so let's have a look at this in action I move the ball back in my stance habit number two I Square the club face up to Target then I grip it and then watch what happens to the shot oh

"Hey there, in this video, I'm excited to share four simple one-minute habits that I've been using with my students who are struggling to hit the ball straight, whether they're using their drivers or irons. What's great about these habits is that they don't involve making major swing changes. Instead, they focus on subtle adjustments to your setup and swing approach. Let's kick things off by addressing issues with your irons before moving on to the driver.

If you find yourself slicing or hooking the ball, imagine your golf swing as an old cowboy swing door. Slicers tend to have the clubface open before impact, causing the ball to veer right, while hooking results from a closed clubface before impact, causing shots to veer left. The first habit I recommend involves modifying your ball position. If you're prone to slicing, try moving the ball slightly back in your stance. This change encourages an earlier impact, which can lead to straighter shots.

Now, onto the second habit: pay close attention to your clubface. Before gripping the club, ensure it's aligned with your intended target. Avoid making clubface adjustments after altering your ball position, as this can lead to an open or closed clubface, impacting your shot's direction. It's crucial to maintain a square clubface for more accurate shots.

Let's put these habits into practice. Move the ball back in your stance and align the clubface with your target before gripping the club. This setup promotes a better draw or straight shot. Remember, maintaining a consistent stance, fine-tuning your grip, and cultivating a smooth swing rhythm are essential. Also, keep your eye on the ball throughout your swing and practice regularly to enhance your game.

I hope these tips assist you in improving your swing and hitting the ball straighter. If you have any questions or need further guidance, don't hesitate to reach out. Keep practicing, and enjoy your time on the golf course!"
