how you can improve the contact with each and every single Club but then what I'm going to show you is what to give a recent student of mine once we got his contact he was initially then making the mistake of swinging longer to try and generate power but here's what we did initially I got him actually to keep his very very small swing generate incredible speed with this simple short swing way before we try to go longer he ended up adding 20 30 yards in no time at all with just a very very short back swing we didn't even go into the full swing at this stage because I wanted him to perfect this it was so simple he got his contact he got his strike and he kept his Direction I want this for you too now before I get into the lesson if this is one of your first videos of mine please consider subscribing I release lessons like this every single week to try and help you improve your game plus you'll never have to remember a thing I'll always put a free download on practice guide in the description box below so with my student George I didn't jump into he wanted more power initially but the problem was is his contact was really inconsistent so we dealt with contact First which is what I'm going to do with you right now and then I showed him how to very easily start adding some speed to this and and some distance so we contact this is the biggest problem I often see with contact what George was doing is he was losing the angle in this Trail wrist as he was coming into our impact here this club was starting to kind of straighten here now the problem is in order to strike a ball you have to strike the ball all than the ground and you'll see with any top player they're able to maintain this kind of lean in the shaft here where there's a bit of an angle George wasn't doing that he was ultimately the club was being thrown all these angles had disappeared his Trail arm here was starting to pop out now occasionally would strike down and it would strike it okay but it was very very inconsistent so all I did was change two things one thing in setup and then just one thing I needed to to help him feel in terms of contact the first thing was to give him a sense of strike this what I want to do for you is this get yourself set here start off with your Trail arm here your elbow tucked in this Trail arm pointing straight outwards then I want to I want you to do is this I want you to push downwards down and slightly my left just slightly down left I want to feel like you've got a strike in here this is very and I'm pushing down with the pad of my trail handy I'm pushing this way now this is super important because this is very different to when people normally push they push with their fingers and when you push with your fing fingers what you end up doing is is you end up doing this this is you trying to throw the club or flick The Club at it okay you throw the fingers at it you pad now he's pointing almost upwards in this flicky position and your Trail arm pops out and you lose all strike and all distance so I got him to put his Pad feel like his pad's pushing downwards onto this club then what I did from here I said no backing for a second from here what I want to do is with your Trail side I want to turn the whole side down and through so you see how my trail side here is lit all of my right side here is working through the shot and what you see here is this beautifully almost straight line if you are struggling with contact you won't see that most of the time people's bodies are kind of freezing when the body stops the arms get thrown and we get this kind of flicky style motion so with George all I did was get him to do one uh one drill feel that motion here push the club through impact okay notice this not push it this way remember the golf swing is an arc and so are my hands my hands look work on an arc too they don't work pushing in a straight line they work on an ark so I got him to push on the ark here so you could really feel his right side turning down and through the shot then all I did is said right now you've got that sensation let's do a just a few small swings took that trail elbow in make a few little swings maybe quarter swings half swings maybe lead arm up to power whatever you want to do and we're going to imagine now turning that face onto the golf ball and you're going to push as far as you can through here keeping that trail elbow really tucked in don't let it pop out okay so we started off like that nice and small getting to feel a beautiful look strike now do you think he got that first time of course he didn't okay so what initially did he made the old adage his body stopped he held it for a little bit his body stopped and the hands took over he had to learn the feel of this pad pushing through the impact area here all right so the whole side so I gave him exercises one here just put your Trail L up to here and just a m that the pad here turning down to the ground and pushing through pushing through where's my pad here not flicked my fingers I'm going to repeat that once or twice to get this feeling here yeah and now we started bit by bit to really get a more solid stri just like that so George was already super happy because he had now improved his contact which had added a few extra yards he wanted more and on these next few swings he I could see him getting this the swing was getting longer and longer and as he got longer and longer his strike went and his accuracy went and actually his distance went and I said George did you know there's a way to hit the ball longer without increasing the length of your back swing do that first make the current small swinger super efficient then if you can extend it but not before let me explain what I mean by this CU it was really really useful so I I gave I demonstrated this with a Potter so I said George look at this I'm going to hit a couple of balls for you right we're going to keep the back swing and the forward length pretty much similar okay watch this and I'm going to change one thing and see if you can spot it okay so this is watch the back sping length actually the forward swing's gone quite a long way hasn't it right but watch this what am I going to do to hit this ball

further am I changing the length of my stroke or am I changing something different look how much further that's probably doubled over doubled the distance what do you see I've changed there what do you see I've simply just applied more force with a different Rhythm to the back of that golf ball so here's what I did with George what I did was I got him to imagine this and I want you to do the same this is the simplest way to add power to your game if a ball goes further it travels faster off the club face so what does this club need to do it needs to travel faster into this golf ball and I want you to spend time picturing this really really important if I move the club like this with a back swing and then copy the same back swing but add work on how I can change my rhythm to add more Force into the back of that golf ball you will hit the ball loads further so let me show you I'm not going to here I'm going to try to get this sense of Rhythm I've got George to do this I want to find a rhythm that's going to add some speed to this so I said don't change your length your back s if your back swing's maybe going up to about 9:00 here with your lead down all I'm going to do is make a swing you've now got your strike at this pace so let me hit a shot for you just to show you so I'm going to swing up to back here and I'm going to apply a force into the back of that golf ball that's a certain force that ball there traveled 80.8 yards now all I'm going to do is with the same length back swing I am going to do a few practi swings where I'm going to find a rhythm where I'm feeling a force into the back of this golf ball now all I'm doing here look is this I am not firing and losing the strike what I'm doing look I'm my elbow still tucked in and I'm rotating that forearm down if your Trail side dominant it's just trail out Army just straightening it and rotating down on the golf ball if your lead to theant I'm just turning my lead shoulder down onto this golf ball really applying the force to that shot and what I'm doing here is really getting a rhythm with this I'm not just randomly smashing it I'm finding a rhythm so look at the length of this back swing just about 9:00 and fire it down watch this

now how far's that gone with just barely anything 80 on the re previous one 120 so we've added 40 yards with just a change in the Rhythm now with George all we did was spend time getting him to find this Rhythm bit by bit a rhythm that kept his strike and added his distance one final thing which really really helped with this and I gave this exercise to a recent student I got him to kind of hold the club up like this for a second here this is a same length back swing okay very very slow but if I do this and raise this end I accelerate the club I got him to feel this as he was doing this okay as a real sense of okay so what is rhythm it isn't it's wooden motion there's a can you see this I'm firing down there's a real fire the body is allowed to move to fire this club and as I'm doing this with a short swing I can apply a lot of force into the back of that ball short the back swing fire it through and what's that get up to 125 yds I don't know I cannot see the length of my back swing but that's traveled 125 RS what feels like a real knocking swing total distance 135 so look do me a favor get your contact down first and then before you even consider going longer really start to find a rhythm and start to count that Rhythm so it's like one and two one and two one and two one and two and you can see almost there's a movement here firing it down as I fire down my lead side comes up get the Rhythm get the strike and then only then should you worry about extending That Swing so I hope you love this video if you did give it a thumbs up maybe share it to one of your friends and of course look I give this uh simple exercise to a recent student of mine which I'll put in this uh corner here so go and check it out if you love videos like this one please consider subscribing to the channel so you don't miss out on future videos but until next week have a wonderful golfing week.

Transcript Summary-

How many times have you been told that in order to hit the golf ball further, you've got to swing longer? It doesn't need to be true. In this video, I'm going to show you first how you can improve the contact with each and every single club. But then, what I'm going to show you is what I gave a recent student of mine once we got his contact right. Initially, he was making the mistake of swinging longer to try and generate power. But here's what we did.

Initially, I got him to keep a very, very small swing, generate incredible speed with this simple short swing. Way before we try to go longer, he ended up adding 20, 30 yards in no time at all with just a very, very short backswing. We didn't even go into the full swing at this stage because I wanted him to perfect this. It was so simple. He got his contact, he got his strike, and he kept his direction. I want this for you too.

Before I get into the lesson, if this is one of your first videos of mine, please consider subscribing. I release lessons like this every single week to help you improve your game. Plus, you'll never have to remember a thing. I'll always put a free download or practice guide in the description box below.

With my student George, I didn't jump into the desire for more power initially. The problem was his contact was really inconsistent. So, we dealt with contact first, which is what I'm going to do with you right now. Then I showed him how to very easily start adding some speed to this and some distance. So, contact, this is the biggest problem I often see. With contact, what George was doing is he was losing the angle in this trail wrist as he was coming into impact here. The club was starting to straighten.

The problem is, in order to strike a ball, you have to strike the ball, then the ground. You'll see with any top player, they're able to maintain this lean in the shaft, a bit of an angle. George wasn't doing that. He was ultimately throwing the club, all these angles disappeared. His trail arm here was starting to pop out. Occasionally, he would strike down, and it would be okay, but it was very inconsistent.

So, all I did was change two things, one thing in setup, and then just one thing I needed him to feel in terms of contact. The first thing was to give him a sense of strike. What I want you to do is get yourself set here, start off with your trail arm, elbow tucked in, trail arm pointing straight outwards. Then, I want you to push downwards down and slightly left, just slightly down left. I want you to feel like you've got a strike in here.

This is very important because this is very different from when people normally push. They push with their fingers, and when you push with your fingers, you end up doing this, trying to throw the club or flick the club at it. You throw the fingers at it. The pad is pointing almost upwards in this flicky position, and your trail arm pops out, and you lose all strike and all distance.

So, I got him to put his pad, feel like his pad's pushing downwards onto this club. Then, what I did from here is, I said, "No backing for a second. From here, what I want you to do with your trail side is turn the whole side down and through." You see how my trail side here is lifting, all of my right side here is working through the shot. What you see here is this beautiful, almost straight line.

If you're struggling with contact, you won't see that. Most of the time, people's bodies are freezing, and when the body stops, the arms get thrown, and we get this flicky style motion. With George, all I did was get him to do one drill, feel that motion, push the club through impact. Notice, not pushing it this way. Remember, the golf swing is an arc, and so are my hands. My hands work on an arc too. They don't work pushing in a straight line. They work on an arc.

So, I got him to push on the arc here. He could really feel his right side turning down and through the shot. Then, all I did is say, "Right, now that you've got that sensation, let's do a few small swings. Keep that trail elbow in, make a few little swings, maybe quarter swings, half swings, whatever you want to do. Imagine now turning that face onto the golf ball, and you're going to push as far as you can through here, keeping that trail elbow really tucked in. Don't let it pop out."

So, we started off like that, nice and small, getting to feel a beautiful-looking strike. Now, did he get that the first time? Of course, he didn't. Initially, what he did was he made the old adage mistake. His body stopped, he held it for a little bit, his body stopped, and the hands took over. He had to learn the feel of this pad pushing through the impact area here, the whole side.

So, I gave him exercises. One here, just put your trail elbow up to here, and just imagine the pad here turning down to the ground and pushing through, pushing through. Where's my pad here? Not flicked my fingers. I'm going to repeat that once or twice to get this feeling here. Now, we started bit by bit to really get a more solid strike, just like that.

George was already super happy because he had now improved his contact, which had added a few extra yards. He wanted more, and on these next few swings, I could see him getting this. The swing was getting longer and longer, and as he got longer and longer, his strike went, his accuracy went, and actually, his distance went. I said, "George, did you know there's a way to hit the ball longer without increasing the length of your backswing? Do that first. Make the current small swing super efficient, then if you can extend it, but not before."

Let me explain what I mean by this. It was really useful. I demonstrated this with a putter. I said, "George, look at this. I'm going to hit a couple of balls for you. We're going to keep the backswing length and the forward length pretty much similar." Okay, watch this. The backswing length, actually, the forward swing's gone quite a long way, hasn't it? Right. But watch this. What am I going to do to hit this ball further? Am I changing the length of my stroke, or am I changing something different? Look how much further. That's probably doubled over doubled the distance. What do you see I've changed there?

I've simply applied more force with a different rhythm to the back of that golf ball. So, here's what I did with George. I got him to imagine this, and I want you to do the same. This is the simplest way to add power to your game. If a ball goes further, it travels faster off the club face. What does this club need to do? It needs to travel faster into this golf ball, and I want you to spend time picturing this. It's really, really important.

If I move the club like this with a backswing and then copy the same backswing but add work on how I can change my rhythm to add more force into the back of that golf ball, you will hit the ball loads further. So, let me show you. I'm not going to hear. I'm going to try to get this sense of rhythm. I've got George to do this. I want to find a rhythm that's going to add some speed to this. I said, "Don't change the length of your backswing. If your backswing's maybe going up to about 9:00 here with your lead down, all I'm going to do is make a swing. You've now got your strike at this pace."

So, let me hit a shot for you just to show you. I'm going to swing up to back here, and I'm going to apply a force into the back of that golf ball. That's a certain force. That ball there traveled 80.8 yards. Now, all I'm going to do is, with the same length backswing, I am going to do a few practice swings where I'm going to find a rhythm where I'm feeling a force into the back of this golf ball. Now, all I'm doing here look is this. I am not firing and losing the strike. What I'm doing look is my elbow's still tucked in, and I'm rotating that forearm down.

If you're trailside dominant, it's just the trail arm. You're just straightening it and rotating down on the golf ball. If you're lead-dominant, I'm just turning my lead shoulder down onto this golf ball, really applying the force to that shot. What I'm doing here is really getting a rhythm with this. I'm not just randomly smashing it. I'm finding a rhythm. Look at the length of this backswing, just about 9:00, and fire it down. Watch this.

Now, how far has that gone with just barely anything? 80 on the previous one, 120. So, we've added 40 yards with just a change in the rhythm. Now, with George, all we did was spend time getting him to find this rhythm bit by bit, a rhythm that kept his strike and added his distance. One final thing which really helped with this, and I gave this exercise to a recent student. I got him to kind of hold the club up like this for a second here.

This is a same-length backswing, okay, very, very slow. But if I do this and raise this end, I accelerate the club. I got him to feel this as he was doing this. As a real sense of okay, so what is rhythm? It's a wooden motion. There's a can you see this? I'm firing down. There's a real fire. The body is allowed to move to fire this club. As I'm doing this with a short swing, I can apply a lot of force into the back of that ball. Short the backswing, fire it through, and what's that get up to? 125 yards. I don't know. I cannot see the length of my backswing, but that's traveled 125 yards, what feels like a real knocking swing. Total distance, 135.

So, look, do me a favor. Get your contact down first, and then, before you even consider going longer, really start to find a rhythm and start to count that rhythm. So, it's like one and two, one and two, one and two, one and two. You can see almost there's a movement here, firing it down. As I fire down, my lead side comes up, get the rhythm, get the strike, and then only then should you worry about extending that swing. I hope you love this video. If you did, give it a thumbs up, maybe share it with one of your friends. And, of course, I give this simple exercise to a recent student of mine, which I'll put in this corner here. So, go and check it out if you love videos like this one. Please consider subscribing to the channel so you don't miss out on future videos. But until next week, have a wonderful golfing week.
